Callie

“Callie will be 18 this summer but she was born weighing just 2.5lbs and immediately diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange, which is quite a rare genetic syndrome. She is tiny for her age, fed via tube, has no speech and requires full time care. However, she is happy, feisty and can certainly make her needs known!

We first approached Amelia’s Rainbow in 2015 and they helped us to purchase a fabulous all terrain buggy for Callie. As with all disabled equipment, nothing comes cheap, but this buggy has allowed us freedom on walks as we can take it on the beach, through the forest…..anywhere. It has been especially useful on our golf course walks recently during the lockdown.

A couple of years after that, AR came to our aid again and bought Callie her own iPad. What a gift!! She loves listening to music and we use it to help with communication. It has been another lifesaver in lockdown!

In 2020 with our changing world, we found ourselves at home, no school, no physiotherapy, no carers! We were given all of Callie’s equipment from school but sadly the brilliant walker that she uses every day isn’t designed to be used outside and we don’t have the inside space for it. Again, we have been so lucky as Amelia’s Rainbow came to our rescue and purchased some (very pricey) outside wheels. This means that Callie can use her walker with ease on the uneven ground outside so we can keep her walking.

Thank you to Amelia’s Rainbow Supporters from Callie and Callie’s Mum xxx”
